Learn Fingerpicking patterns Today
Finger picking is a good way to add more interest and variety to your guitar playing! There are hundreds of finger picking styles and patterns you can lean to play. View the video in one sitting to see what the finger picking patterns look like.I suggest practicing each pattern separately until they are easy for you to play. Then try the next pattern. The finger picking patterns are easiest of the beginning of the video. As you are practicing the patterns, you may want to try taping yourself to see how even it sounds.
Here are a few tips to help you. First, try to consciously relax your hand after ever pluck. Most guitar players hold too much tension in their hands. Another idea is to practice slowly and switch to the chords without a pause. See the next chord in your mind before you change to it.
One of the popular picking patterns you will learn is the Travis Picking Pattern. Travis picking is a style of playing that is commonly used to refer to an alternating thumb-picked bass line over which a syncopated melody is picked on the treble strings. This picking pattern is named after Merle Travis.
When you are comfortable with these patterns, you can use them for many other songs. The patterns will become like second nature to you. It can be like driving a car. It is a lot of work in the beginning, but if you concentrate on playing with good technique it can become natural to you.
