The parts of a Guitar

Before you get started making your own guitar it's recommended that you be familiar with the pieces Guitar Kits come packed with.

Neck of the Guitar
First of all now we have the neck itself, in some guitars this is one solid component (e.g. Fender Telecaster) where in others the neck has an inlay with the frets, this will often feature a distinct wood towards the neck of the guitar itself and so the popular options includes Maple, Ebony as well as Rosewood. Inside of the neck is the Truss Rod, these come in single or dual variants and they are utilized to adjust the straightness of your neck to assist against bowing or warping. The Truss Rod could basically be tightened around the headstock. After that we have the head stock itself which is where in you will add the tune set up (machine heads and adjusting pegs). Some guitars will also have string manuals for keeping the strings in place. Lastly we need the nut that sits on top of the guitar neck and has openings for the guitar strings to put in. These are typically made out of bone or sometimes ivory.

The Body
The body is uncomplicated and it is characteristically a robust piece of timber routed for the guitar hardware. The guitar neck either bolts right on to the body or perhaps is stuck depending on the guitar kit you have chosen. Neck thru designs are usually glued however run the length of your guitar.

The Bridge
The bridge stands out as the part on the rear of the guitar right behind the back pickup where the strings are attached to. The bridge is often suspended at the rear of the guitar body. Usually the steadiness is achieved by springs running counter to the string edges. Bridges could be categorised within either Tremelo or Non-Tremelo versions.

Hardware
This is where the bulk of your audio is created of course. If you choose to personalize further this is probably the spot where you will begin as most guitar kits only provide entry level pickups. Pickups are available in many differing kinds yet to produce just a bare bones solution to this - pickups can be purchased as either single coil or humbucker. Individual coil is best recognized for clear bluesy tones while Humbuckers have generally been employed for rock and roll and more heavy sounds. Additionally, there are loaded Active as well as Humbucker pickups and the list continues. We may discuss pickups in a different post in greater detail sometime soon because it is a topic that justifies over a more casual view.

You then have your selector buttons to choose what pickup is currently used. These often come in three or five way selector buttons enabling diverse combinations of pickups to be in motion simultaneously. The primary reason for this would be to let a guitar tonal variety. After that we have Sound level and Tone Potentiometers (also known as pots ) yet another part you may think about customizing to achieve much better command as yet again much like adjusting pegs possessing better control will permit more exactness using your specific tone. Lastly you have the key in jack to attach the lead which is fairly self explanatory. Many of these pieces will come pre-wired with the largest part of Guitar Kits currently available nevertheless, you might consider dealing with the cabling yourself once you have a better knowledge of the guitar components to give you even greater influence over your tone.
Use it as a whole and you will have your own typical guitar.
